As we published our post about Dr.Contractor and his friends taking off on 1st April on their non stop Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai cycle ride to raise awareness and funds for St. Judes Child Care Center, the trio had begun their journey amidst much fan fare and good wishes. The amazing feat was covered in a little short of 15 hours and they managed to raise over 85 lakhs for the cause. Dr. Contractor writes,
“14 hours 25 mins after we set off from Bombay University, at 9:25 am on Sunday morning, we rolled to a stop in front of a cheering crowd of St Jude’s children and staff, family and friends. From the time we set-off at 7 pm on Saturday evening we covered a distance of 329 km, averaged over 24.2 km per hr, gained a total of 5900 feet (and lost the same amount), braved rush-hour Bombay traffic, encountered temperatures of 21-34 C, brought a little bit of joy and hope to incredibly courageous children struggling with a horrible disease and made memories to last a lifetime. As unbelievable as that sounds, what is far more incredible, is that three idiots on a bike (I take liberty with my two friends here ), could raise more than 85 lakhs in ten days for children suffering from cancer housed at the St. Jude Centre!”
In a city that most people call uninspiring and materialistic, there are still some people who want to stretch their own boundaries and find a way to make it work for a larger good. Being a working professional myself, it amazes me how Ashish, Prashant and Jaideep made the time in their hectic professional schedules to train and made this ride happen. We found the story of these brave hearts truly inspiring. Tell us what you think..
As we start out on our mission to make MumbaiMag your source for all the fresh, interesting and inspiring happenings in Mumbai, I invite you to share stories of people, places that you may have come across and we would love to meet them. You can write to us at email@example.com.
