With Dhoble on the prowl and prices of a drink at your favourite pub in the city being the highest in the country, it has become considerably harder to go out and celebrate your birthday with a few friends. As we’ve mentioned before, a house party is the most obvious choice. And if the image of being  a model host and serving your guests is one you don’t find yourself fitting into, we found a solution to that too – Barmobile, a portable bar service. They promise to set up anywhere in 15 minutes, customize their drinks to suit your theme and come complete with a bartender!

Gaurish Rangnekar, the man behind Barmobile saw a similar service in Miami and realized that it would do very well in a place like Mumbai. “This service is basically to make house parties more exciting and getting a ‘real bar feel’ at home. The host can then enjoy his own party as everything is taken care of by Barmobile”, he says.

But being a Batman fan, I had to ask, is that the inspiration for the name? “Not really” he says “It’s actually a bar on wheels – a mobile bar and I wanted to keep it short and sweet”.  Gaurish is no novice when it comes to hospitality. Having been around for 6 years, he is the man responsible for The Den – Wine Bar in Bandra. A wine certification course from the Cape Wine Academy in Johannesburg and a Master Mixology course from the New York School Bartending School tucked firmly under his belt, it is safe to assume that he is very passionate about his drinks.

The entire service costs about Rs. 5,500 for five hours, although that changes if it’s a commercial event. With a team of 25 bartenders who have been handpicked with previous experience in cocktail mixing and a battery of teams handling different aspects of his new company, Gaurish seems to be ready and set to take the Mumbai partying scene by storm. “I train these bartenders personally and make sure they are dressed in accordance to the theme of the party!” he says.

They serve throughout Mumbai and are looking to expand into other cities as well. Apart from broadening their service perimeter, what else are we looking at in the future? “You will be soon seeing Barmobile mocktail bars and kiosks at malls and cinemas”, promises Gaurish.
