Enfield Riders
Enfield Riders was started in April 2012, by biker Poornima Gujral, 30,who quit her teaching job at Mumbai’s Oberoi International to start this bike tours and rental service. She started with five bikes, but because of the growing demand the fleet has grown to 15, ranging from 500cc and 350cc Enfields in less than a year. Gujral organises short weekend rides of 200-250 km around Mumbai as well as long tours of more than 1,200 km to places like Rajasthan, Ladakh and the North-east. You can also rent a 350 cc bike for Rs 1,500 (excluding fuel).

And if you want to rent bikes for more than a week, rentals drop by Rs 300 per day. A four day-long trip to a destination of choice like Goa costs approximately Rs 15,000 per couple all inclusive. Longer group expeditions of around 10 days to destinations such as Rajasthan and Ladakh would cost Rs 40,000 per person. They offer support like back-up vehicles, mechanic help, spare parts (in case a bike breaks down), a road captain to guide your journey and a multi-utility vehicle in case your friends or family decide to travel along.

Helmet Stories
Helmet Stories was started in the summer of 2011 by the duo Vir Nakai, an advertising professional and Harsh Man Rai, a photographer. They have been touring the Himalayas for the past eight years. After starting a blog to advise bikers on how to navigate mountainous roads in 2010, the following year, they started their company. Initially their clients were mostly foreigners, but many enthusiastic bikers from India are now forming part of their customer base. Helmet Stories has a fleet of 14 Enfield Classic 500s.

Some of their chosen off-beat destinations include Spiti valley, the rugged and remote Pangi Valley, Mayad Valley and Chanshal pass and little-known villages like Dodra and Kwar. Helmet Stories does not have per day rental scheme for bikes or deposit charges, but offers an all-inclusive package for the entire tour. A week’s ride to a certain destination in the Himalayas would cost Rs 80,000 which includes bikes, fuel, riding gear, medical facilities, back-up van and a cook. Air fares are not included in the package. They have a strong network of locals in Himalayas so you can be assured of authentic meals and help on your trip.
