Let me warn you, this post is not for the faint hearted; it’s laden with cheese! I love my pizza on a rainy day. So, when I was invited to review the World Pizza Fest at Cafe Mangii for MumbaiMag, you know what happened. The restaurant at Powai, overlooking the lake, made for the perfect venue for a rainy afternoon and I was ready to taste some pizzas from around the globe.

We were greeted by Lalit, who manages the restaurant. Along with the regular Mangii menu was the special pizza menu which promised  variety with over ten regional pizzas, including a sweet one! From Greek to Singaporean and Japanese to Indonesian and even our very own ‘Desi’ pizza recipe, each found it’s place here. Lalit mentioned that all the recipes were handpicked from the regions by Cafe Mangii chefs. While I was looking forward to the tasting, my only feedback to the team is to improve the quality of their menu cards. I could not help but notice that they were worn, torn and had food stains on them; not a pleasant sight when ordering food.

To begin with I tried the Big Fat Greek Pizza. The thin crust pizza came piping hot, laden with generous toppings and won my heart with the fresh basil and oregano. The crumbled feta cheese added gooey richness to the fragrant slices. I also tasted the Trip to Hollywood pizza which came topped with chicken sausages and salami and melting cheese.

And if that was not enough cheese for one afternoon, Lalit insisted we try their Blueberry Cheesecake before we leave. I’m glad I did. It was a moist, smooth, silky cheesecake with just the right amount of sweetness, served with luscious blueberries in a rich sauce.

The location of Mangii, Powai and the warm, ambiance along with some fresh, wood fried pizzas made for a great relaxed afternoon. So whether or not you are a cheese freak like me, if you enjoy pizzas and are looking for a cozy spot to catch a weekend lunch, check out the pizza fest at Mangii. And don’t forget to share your reviews with us!
