Found myself loitering in the newly opened Neptune Mall  in Bhandup last night. Since it was just about time for dinner, decided to try out the new Cream Centre outlet there. I have been to the Chowpatty outlet quite a while ago and was glad to see one this side of town as well.

The Cream Centre dining hall at Neptune is spacious, beautifully lit and has 2 huge screen TVs – perfect for the IPL season. However, with it being a week day and the match being cancelled because of rain, the audience was limited. All the more better I thought, because that meant less noise, and who doesn’t enjoy a quiet, peaceful dinner!

The menu is a delight for vegetarians like me as it offers everything from soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas to nachos, sizzlers, chaats and paranthas. Having tried Italian at Bel Cibo for lunch yesterday with Ekta, decided to go for the Paneer Shashlik Sizzler this time. My friend who had joined me for dinner ordered Chole Bhature. We also ordered for a glass of chilled Masala Chaas each to wrap up the meal.

The Paneer Shashlik Sizzler with black pepper sauce was not the best. Not only did I dislike the hastily put together look of the sizzler, the paneer was almost raw and not grilled enough to be called Shashlik. The accompaniments were plain and lacked any signs of originality – the same old white rice, a few blanched beans and carrots and few fries and some sauce drizzled over it all.

The Chole was just right, dark and with that typical Amritsari kaali mirch flavor. But sadly, the bhaturas disappointed. Not only were they excessively oily but also unusually hard. The only saving grace was the Masala Chaas which turned out to be a glassful of delight with just the right spice and ginger to soothe our harrowed insides after the not-so-good food.

All in all, we were a tad disappointed. Seems like Cream Centre might just be losing that Veg Edge !

Meal for two: Around Rs. 900 with beverages
