Sushi Samba by Latin Twist at Shiro – Every Wednesday
Only in Mumbai can you expect this completely quirky combination of Japanese food and Latin American music. Japanese restaurant Shiro is also one of the city’s most popular dance clubs, and one of their hottest offerings is ‘Sushi Samba’. Though the name suggest otherwise, the night is dominated by salsa, which still seems to be India’s favourite social dance style. But expect Bachata, Cha cha Cha, Merengue, Zouk, Reggaeton and much more. The event begins at 10:30 & ends at 1:00 a.m., and entry is free. The music for these events is curated by DJs Mary Lobo & Derek Spencer, who are often joined by DJ Ash.

Latino Nights by The Dance Factory at Canvas Lounge – Every Thursday
The Dance Factory is a dance company started by duo Vineet Bangera and Sahiba Sawhney. They have teamed up with Canvas Lounge (at Palladium, Lower Parel) to present Latino Nights, every Thursday starting at 9 p.m. As the name suggests, music played by DJ Shiva will be exclusively Latin American. Dancers will get a choice of salsa, reggaeton, merengue, zouk and other Latin genres. The Dance Factory adds pizzazz to the evening with a performance! You are not expected to arrive with a partner, and like at most social dance events the point is to dance each number with someone new. These Latino nights are pretty popular among Mumbai’s dancers, so expect a packed dance floor!

Monthly Tango Milongas at Cool Chef Café
Though Latin ballroom styles like salsa, cha cha cha and bachata are more popular, tango isn’t too far behind. Actress & model Kitu Gidwani, moonlights as a tango dancer and teacher. She collaborates with Cool Chef Café to organize one tango milonga every month. She has been doing so for about 2 years now. This month, the milonga will be held on the 24th, which is a Friday. The event fee of Rs.450 is usable against food and drinks – that’s a pretty neat deal! Dancers of all levels are welcome to join the fun. Events are usually announced via CCC’s social media channels.

Monthly dance socials with Baile-de-Salon
Baile-de-Salon
is a very popular dance academy which conducts a variety of dance classes including salsa, casino rueda, argentine tango, rumba, cha cha, bachata, merengue, jive, mambo, cumbia & more. Every month Balie-de-Salon organizes a Latin Ballroom dance event for their students and for dance enthusiasts in general. They choose a different hospitality partner every month, some of which include Poly Esthers, Cool Chef Café, the Westin, Yatch Club, etc. They also their own studios in Colaba and Powai to conduct these open dance nights or ‘practicas’. The best part about these socials is that they always begin with a small workshop, to break the ice and get beginners into the groove. What’s even better? You just spend on your food and drinks, ‘cause the dancing is free!

Now pull out those fresh year planners and fill up your nights with dance!
