Leonidas Bunny in an Easter Egg
Leonidas Bunny in an Easter Egg

Now, I’m not one of those to pick favourites. And certainly not when it comes to ‘Fun, Food-Filled Festivals’ (aka my ultimate quadruple ‘F’ extravaganza!). But somehow Easter for me, as a good-church-going-Catholic-boy (ahem!), has always been pegged a wee notch above Christmas. I don’t know why, but there is something about those bright yellow fondant chickens, luridly pink marzipan eggs and delish chocolate bunnies that manages to make the muggy days of spring in Mumbai a lot more bearable. It is that time of the year when bakers put finishing touches to yummy hot cross buns while pork sorpotel and tongue roast aromas waft out of quaint cottages in Chuim, a Bandra village. And it is also the time when the ubiquitous Easter song ‘my name is Anthony Gonsalves’ from Amar, Akbar, Anthony gets played by TV channels on a loop, each time managing to coax a hearty laugh from us all as we get an eyeful of some truly Bachchan-esque legwork.

And as much as I’d love to invite you all to mia casa for Easter lunch, the logistics are simply daunting. So, here’s an alternate I propose. Have a look at what I’ve put together for you to celebrate with this Easter Sunday and I’m sure you’ll find a way to celebrate the festival like it’s meant to be celebrated, with oodles of food, drink, music and sweet somethings.

Piccoli Tortini
This self-annointed pasticceria (whatever that is!) celebrate the goodness of Easter this year with small pleasures as they launch an all new Easter Dessert Menu from today, Wednesday, March 27th. They claim that they bring authentic, organic desserts that are made with love from the kitchens of Italy straight to you. The signature desserts as a part of their special Easter Dessert menu includes Pasticiottis that is a traditional Italian dessert filled with a creamy, sweet centre with a pie-like crusty exterior, Cantuccis that are crunchy almond and lemon flavoured biscotti and the all time favourite Rosemary Buns that come with an interesting little back story. Apparently, Rosemary Buns represent Lord Jesus and the sacred scented anointed oils used for healing, and are traditionally had after the Sunday Easter mass to celebrate the glorious resurrection of Christ. Sounds awesome right? Both the story and the buns, that is!
