The one thing I love more than Harry Potter, perhaps, is beer. If I could, I’d be on an exclusive beer-only diet. Someone once even told me that beer is, in fact, liquid bread. Such poetry in those words and so reassuring. I’m always looking for places where I can indulge in my not-at-all worrying binge drinking in peace and Woodside Inn (at Andheri and Colaba) has always struck as a great option because of the ambience. The soft lighting and the woody interiors take me back to England, where pubs are a national past time.

And now their Annual Beer and Burger fest is back! Beer and burger is a match made in heaven – the kinds Madhuri Dixit set up on her TV show. No, not Jhalak Dikhlaja, she did a show that set people up and..oh, forget it. Point is, there’s nothing better to wash down a burger than this third-most-popular-beverage-in-the-world. So much so, that there is actually a beer called ‘Burger‘ beer brewed in US.

In its fifth year, the Woodside Inn Beer and Burger festival comes to you at two locations this time, something that has been reinforced in a cute video posted below. This time around, the burgers on the menu come from nearly a dozen countries – Holland, Ireland, USA, Germany, United Kigndom, Mexico, Belgium, Japan, Italy, Estonia and India too. So do the beers!

Served with a portion of truffle fries and coleslaw, a little flag of the country adorns the burgers. The pancake beef burger is served with fried onion rings, the American whopper with candy bacon served in a ciabatta, the Weiner Schnitzel with sauerkraut served in a brioche, a roast beef burger with cheddar served in a ciabatta, a Teriyaki chicken burger among so many more that my grumbling stomach is not allowing me to type out. With only three choices for vegetarians, however – the sticky rice burger with pickled ginger, a blackened carrots and beetroots burger and an Indian veggie burger with onion jam and mint chutney – the menu is a discriminatory one, but not an altogether unfair one.

While the festival generally attracts a lot of tweet-ups and meet-ups and is hugely popular – it helps to keep a little extra cash in your wallet because whatever else it is, economical it is not! Starting at Rs. 375 for the veg burger and imported beer pints starting at Rs. 345, you may very well leave the place filled with deliciousness but sober. My experience at Woodside has always been a good one – some better than the others, but a good one nevertheless. If you haven’t been yet, go, now! And if you have, what has your experience been like?
