20Dresses.com: Six months of detailed on-ground research by 20Dresses team lead to an eye-opening finding that highlighted the dislike customers harbor for e-commerce sites cluttered with products. “People are looking for differentiated and unique products, mainly personalized offerings. And we at 20Dresses resolve this problem by offering online styling and personalized recommendations to our members,” says Sneha Singh, Stylist & Merchandiser, 20Dresses.com. 20Dresses is a membership based personalized online fashion destination where style experts give customers real time suggestions on styling. Equipped with what they call FI i.e. fashion intelligence, 20Dresses assesses individual customer behavior and tastes and accordingly recommends what they think will suit them best.

Founded by Mr.Sumant Kasliwal, they have over 50,000 active registered users who buy from the site. Though 20Dresses mostly attracts fashion conscious girls between the age group of 18 – 25 yrs, Sneha says, “Styling is not linked to any age group and we cater to women upto 40 yrs as well.” Members can also shop without taking any assistance from the personal stylist but 20Dresses does cross check if they feel that the customers have ordered an incorrect size. A majority of the apparel merchandise comes from their in house manufacturing unit, 20D. Apparel and jewellery is what they sell most on the site. “We are building further in other categories and planning new ones including shoes,” concludes Sneha.

Kanvas: What started as a hobby has today grown into a successful enterprise. Kanvas was established by Komal Panchal a final year fashion designing student who loves to paint and experiment with the crafts. “I used to paint on various things for my friends and family and the response I received encouraged me to create a brand out of it. For me, it isn’t a retailing or a selling space, but more of an artistic, inspiring and dream fulfilling job,” says the talented Komal.

A customer can choose from their existing ideas or share their ideas and Komal customizes the offerings adding her own special touch. She says, “We do no repeat products that have been customized by people. That’s our policy.” Kanvas makes hand-painted shoes, bags, hand-painted and printed tees, accessories and recently showcased some clothing ideas also. Though they have barely done any publicity, the response has been tremendous. “People come to us with some crazy ideas and stories and we incorporate them into our products. Teenagers love our stuff as there are no restrictions in terms of thoughts” explains Komal. Shoes are their best selling products but they are also a hit with boys who love gaming characters and parents of kids who love to wear cartoon characters.

Writing is a passion I discovered a little late. But better late than never. When not penning my thoughts, you'll find me sniffing around for good food - trying out every new restaurant in town is a hobby. I swear by Hindi films and when doing nothing of the above you'll find me troubling my pet pooch.
