Exactly a week from today, on the 21st of August, we will be in the throes of one of my favourite festive days in our country’s social calendar—Raksha Bandhan. A day when siblings not only celebrate the unseen bonds that bind them together with a simple piece of thread, but also a day when they celebrate each other!
I refuse to dub that day a mere ‘brother-sister day’ and thus diminish the ties between two sisters or two brothers. It is (and should be!) a day for every combination of sibling to honour each other. And in my opinion there is no better way than food and fun to sweeten the day even further. And a combination of the two is a sure shot way to earn you brownie points from your sibling(s).
So, I’ve come up with my list of things to do, eat and buy way in advance, so that you can plan your day out in a way that you pull out all the stops to make this Raksha Bandhan a truly memorable one…

Hot Dog Fest at The Irish House
Hand’s down, this has got to be one of the most fun ways to celebrate Raksha Bandhan! The Irish House all-day pub brings to you the gourmet Hot Dog Fest right up to the 31st of this month across all their outlets. During this fest, you can pick from a wide variety of a la carte hot dogs or you can choose to build your own gourmet dog from a range of sauces and toppings. For all those vegetarian foodies, pick from a variety of veggie dogs too. And don’t forget to indulge in some healthy sibling rivalry by participating in the ‘The Super Dog Challenge’, where three winners will be chosen from each outlet to compete for the grand finale. The winner will be chosen from among those who can wolf down the most number of hotdogs in the fastest time. Get set and whet your appetite!

New Lunch Tasting Menu at Aoi
The funky, Manga Comic-inspired interiors of this diminutive Japanese restaurant and the delectable food make Aoi the perfect place to hang out with your sibling(s) next Wednesday. Add to that the new lunch tasting menu and you have a winner of an afternoon on hands. For Rs. 600, you can avail a choice of three starters like Aoi Special Soba Salad, Mushroom Yakitori, Chicken Yakitori, a special Chef’s Sushi selection, four main course options like Mushroom Donburi , Chicken Donburi, Spicy Udon Stir Fry etc and Aoi’s signature chocolate sushi dessert. And take my suggestion of getting a seat at the sushi bar – where you can watch the Aoi craft team make all these dishes fresh and right in front of your eyes!
Where: 1, Gloria, St John Baptist Road, Near Mount Mary Steps, Bandra (West). Call, 02269995000/1

Goody Hampers at Godrej Nature’s Basket
Show me a person who doesn’t appreciate a goody hamper and I’ll change my name! So, one of the best ways to celebrate this Raksha Bandhan is with a Godrej Nature’s Basket gift hamper from Rs 864 onwards to add the sweetness to the sibling bond. Rather than picking individual items to create a gift, a hamper becomes an ideal choice as the shopping becomes completely hassle free. Each of these hampers includes imported chocolates such as Lindt Truffles, Guylian, Hershys, DueO etc. The gift hamper also includes protein biscuits, oatmeal, organic tea, Weight Watcher snacks etc. And what’s better, they can even custom-make a hamper incorporating one’s choice of products in it.
Where: At all Godrej Nature’s Basket outlets across the city
