CLASSIFIED INFORMATION ALERT: What I am about to reveal to you, has been a closely guarded little secret of mine that very few friends and a lot of foes have been privy to. If you want to see me get totally wasted and drunk senseless, then all you have to do is to catch me down a potent shot of tequila in a moment of temporary insanity. Yes, the Mexican cactus liquor is truly my waterloo when it comes to drinks. Nothing really has any effect on my system as this clear (and often amber coloured) nectar does. Whiskey, non! Rum, nahin! Beer, nein! Vodka, nyet! But with tequila it is always an emphatic—si!! And with today, the 24th of July being the US’s National Tequila Day, I thought it best to dedicate this column to the drink that does me in. And here below is my list of the best tequila-based cocktail options one can partake in, in aamchi Mumbai’s many watering holes… Strawberry Cubanito at Loca Loca Served in the latest receptacle sensation to hit our city—the jam jar, this bright pink tequila-based drink may look all girlie, but packs a mighty punch. Two and these yummy Strawberry Cubanitos (Rs 385 per glass or Rs 1,000 per one litre pitcher) and you’re flat on the floor… ask me! Watermelon Margarita
Watermelon Margarita
Watermelon Margarita at Amigos Who can resist a margarita machine that pours yummy margaritas in three different sizes and flavours? Well, I sure can’t and whenever I’m at Amigos, I make sure to sit very close to the adult version of a slurpee machine, so that my delectable Watermelon Margarita (Rs 175 for the smallest size serving) takes minimal time to reach my thirsty lips… Where: Jewel Shopping Center, 7 Bungalows, Yari Road, Versova, Andheri (West). Call, 022 42669249 Fire Starter at The Big Bang Bar & Café All of three ingredients go into this very interesting and rather pungent cocktail, aptly called Fire Starter (Rs 350). But it is so robust, that you can feel the effects long after you’re conceded defeat to this lethal sum of its (tequila, sambuca and Tabasco) parts. Where: Kenilworth Building, 3rd Linking Road, Bandra (West). Call, 02226008833/77 The Audacious at The Little Door What else but debauchery can you expect with a name like The Audacious (Rs 397). They even bill it as a drink that “will punch you real hard!” Made up of tequila, vodka, cognac and Tabasco, this one isn’t for the faint hearted. Remember, you’ve been sufficiently warned! Where: B 31, Ground Floor, Shree Siddhivinayak Plaza, New Link Road, Andheri (West). Call, +91 9920983833, 9892649040 P.S. And as an extra treat, here’s the recipe of one of the tequila-based drinks that I simply love to shake up every now and then—the Exotic Kiwi Crush (courtesy Sauza Tequila)
