This column sure seems to be seeing a whole lot of spin-off pieces these days. After part deux of the ‘10 Commandments…’ series last week, this week I bring you another take on the city’s concierge services after writing about two premium alcohol providers a few weeks ago. Today, I talk about two start ups that make it that much easier for you to get that special plate of Chorizo Paella from the newest Spanish restaurant or that oomphed-up-with-flavour Goan Prawn Curry from that exclusive (and elusive!) home caterer in a matter of hours…

Imly
Acting primarily as a non-commercial conduit to link up the ‘home cooked food’ aficionado with the many talented home cooks of the city, Imly is an eight month old entity that places great emphasis on helping you find the hidden culinary jewels of Mumbai. So, if you crave some Parsi nosh on one day and some authentic Portuguese-Goan Creole food the next, this is the place to check out and place your order. And the process couldn’t be simpler. All you need to do is visit the site, peruse though the online menu of each home caterer who has uploaded actual pictures of their food along with their profile, select what dishes you’d like to order along with the quantity and place your order. You then have the option of either picking the order up yourself or have it delivered to you for an additional fee by the home caterer itself. But the best part of Imly, according to me, that sets it apart from your usual garden variety hard-core commercial set up is the very old school trust factor. Here you pay nothing in advance and all the payments are made directly to the caterer upfront on receipt of the food. We at MM can’t wait to place our next order, can you?

Extra somethings: They also have a Facebook store in place, where customers can purchase dishes directly through Facebook from the caterers’ FB pages.

Just Eat
With the concept of ‘ordering in’ from your favourite ‘eating-out’ joint forming their raison d’être, Just Eat is a brand new set up that is a reliable one-click ordering system that aims to simplify the entire process of ordering food online. With a presence established in other cities, in Mumbai alone they already have an exhaustive list of 700+ restaurants registered with them. The four step process they follow is also very simple. You need to log in to their website, order and pay for the food (or opt for payment on delivery) from a restaurant in your area, the restaurant is then notified and the order is prepared. Once the order is ready, it is dispatched to your home or office and the rest as they say isn’t rocket science!

Extra somethings: They have recently launched their new food ordering apps on Android, iPhone and Windows 8 platforms, complete with the option of online payment for food orders placed through the app.
