A lot of them cried as they danced cause they hadn’t felt so happy in years

We asked Mumbai to tell us their good deed stories and across social platforms, you told us how you made someone smile. One of the stories that we received from Payal Kumar made us smile. Payal sent us pictures from an event she organised in April 2013 that has set her off on the road of good deeds.

Payal KumarShe says, “In April 2013, my godmother and another dear aunty friend from Friday Kitchen (where these ladies either cook themselves or buy food every Friday morning to feed 600 kids) approached me saying they wanted to celebrate their birthday at an old age home and needed my help to organize it. We picked Jeevan Asha, at Veera Desai road, which houses around 70 inmates and is run by nuns. The idea of a musical concert was in my head so I approached a professional musician friend  Soumitra Ranjan and another interesting group I discovered through Facebook called ‘Sing a Smile‘. Both agreed to come together…so we set up professional sound system, lots of balloons and return gifts that aunties sponsored. We took requests from the inmates on what would they like to eat for dinner the aunties from Friday Kitchen were going to cook for them. At the event, the energy was just WOW…they danced, they sang, a lot of them cried as they danced cause they hadn’t felt so happy in years and were overwhelmed…was truly truly touching…that’s what you see in the pictures :)”
