Suzette

Weekend is here! And it often leads to loads of over indulgence followed by lazing around. Resisting fattening food isn’t made any easier with restaurants serving up delicious set menus with sinful weekend offers or IPL offers. Also family gatherings are bursting with samosas, gujiyas, jalebis, puran polis, cakes, meats or simply everything laden with fat! Considering this we felt that lighter, healthier meals are what all of us could use this weekend. Here are a few places you should head to if you are looking for a healthy detox meal.

SuzetteThis tiny creperie and cafe serves up scrumptious buckwheat crepes with savoury fillings like grilled chicken, feta, spinach and mushrooms. They also have great fresh salads on the menu of which ‘Ete’ (roquette, oranges, pomegranate, zuchinnis, toasted almonds, mint and parsley) is highly recommended. Fresh juices are another great way to detox and provide your body with necessary vitamins. Suzette has great combinations like apple-carrot-ginger and carrot with coriander/basil. And if you wish for something really light then you can opt for their light treats – fruit salad with lime, honey and mint or yogurt, fruit compote and homemade granola.

Fellas Cafe: Known as a health food cafe, the menu at Fellas is not only filled with healthy concoctions but it also shows the calorie count of each dish. They have also mentioned the benefits of each dish/drink which makes it really easy to pick for what you are looking for. Fellas serves a huge variety of juices which help with digestion, skin infections or just help refresh your mind! Apart from juices they serve sandwiches with multigrain bread, soups, salads and also offer “juice memberships!” And oh, they also have a tiny library.

Gostana:This tiny little cafe tucked away in a bylane in Bandra has converted the high on calories burgers and hot dogs into healthy yet delicious treats. Arpana, the owner, uses wheat or multigrain bread for the burgers and steams the burger patties. Yes, steamed patties! And they still taste fabulous. Must try burgers here are the Gostana Chicken , Spinach and Cottage cheese and Beef ones. Apart from the burger they have soups and salads on the menu of which their special Chicken Ranada (grilled chicken with grilled vegetables and hummus) is worth a try.

Juices at The Yoga House

The Yoga House:A cafe that serves organic vegetarian food, conducts yoga classes, has the most soothing ambiance and isolated from the Mumbai chaos, surely assures that you are in the right place to detox. Their clear teas are served with honey and the ones with milk are served with organic jaggery which is really unique. The menu showcases dish names with the actual benefit that the dish will render, like “I am detoxifying” (Quinoa burger with homemade hummus, fresh herbs, mustard and soy sauce). The Yoga House also has a huge variety of juices of which we recommend you try Happy Juice (pineapple, orange, sweet lime) and Pink Juice (pomegranate, watermelon & natural rose water. Despite the holiday over loading if you are still in mood for something sweet then opt for their sin free organic chocolate mousse.
Where: 53, Chimbai Road, Behind St. Andrews Church, Off Hill Road, Bandra West.

We recommend their KGC Chef’s salad (lettuce, broccoli, carrots, crushed almonds, seasonal veggies, feta & wholegrain toast) and waffle with fruit, honey and granola.
