Mumbai! The Joy of Giving Week is being celebrated from October 2nd to October 8th!  It’s a festival of sharing – money, skills, resources and time. we can all join in this effort to partake in the joy of giving and attempt to make a small difference in the lives of the under-privileged and needy. Here’s a list of events that give you an opportunity to give!

Run For A Cause
Footsteps4Good is organising a charity run on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. Make every step count and join this 10km run or walk. Enter it by making a minimum donation of Rs 2000/-to a charity of your choice, either the ones registered on their website or any other charity that you support. You can either register for the 5km walk, 10km walk or the 10km run. Runners will start at 7am and walkers will start at 7:30am.The prizes for the three fastest men and women will be a donation to any of the NGO’s. Green Ways of Gifting
Give some time to the environment as www.grow-trees.com, a social enterprise aims to inculcate the practice of planting trees in public lands. Donate a tree at just Rs 55/- and make the environment greener. Not just this, you can plant a tree in honour of someone or dedicate it to greet someone by ane-certificate with a personalized message.Grow-trees.com work with local authorities and communities to plant trees in public lands, school and hospital grounds and government-owned deforested areas. Make a wish true and celebrate the festival of giving by adopting awish made by underprivileged people. All you have to do is adopt a wish from the Wishtree that has several wishes from children. Wishes range from something small like a pencil box to supporting a child’s one month expenses.

Collection Drives
Participate in the Joy of Giving Week celebrations and donate books in the Donation Drive organised by Hindustan Times. Donate all your unused books and take a small step towards educating the lesser privileged children. All kinds of books for kids in the age group of 3 to 8 years are accepted. Avoid donating textbooks. Drop boxes will be placed at malls like Oberoi Mall, Goregoan; Inorbit Mall Vashi; Hypercity stores at Thane & Malad; Crossword stores at Kemps Corner; InorbitMalad; R City Ghatkopar; R Mall Thane; IMAX Wadala; Juhu Shoppers Stop and Nirmal Lifestyle Mulund.

Thakur complex is organising a clothes donation drive wherein people can donate all kinds of clothes, blankets and bed sheets. They are also accepting recyclable material like old plugs, wires, computer parts, plastic cans, plastic boxes, newspapers, old magazines and more. The clothes will be donated to the needy.

Community Outreach Programme (CORP), a Mumbai based NGO, supports 260 low-income senior citizens from various slums of the city. Their initiative ‘Food Box for Granny’ focuses on supplements their diets with a regular monthly food box of healthy, nutritious commodities. Express The Joy Of Giving Through Entertainment
YES Foundation is organising the YES! I am the Change Film Festival 2013 – a two-day showcase of selected short films made in just 101 hours by film enthusiasts all across India.These stories of positive change throw light on several issues like education, child mortality, poverty, hunger, kindness and more. Join a master chef class with an entry of Rs 1500/- and watch a cooking demonstration by Chef Irfan of Sassy Spoon as he shows how to prepare three of his favourite dishes. All the proceeds from this event will be donated to Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA), an NGO committed towards inculcating values of democracy and active citizenship in children and youth.

To celebrate the Joy of Giving Week this year Cambridgeshire School is organising a carnival which is inclusive of fun-filled event for kids of all age groups. Activities planned are games, rides, tattoo artists, creative activities, singing, dancing and more. This event also attempts help underprivileged children from Voice (a voluntary organization which works for the welfare of street children by educating them) by inviting them for the event. It’s the best opportunity for children to discover the joy of giving. The event is open for all.

Ear them out!
Lend a ear to an informative seminar on organ donation conducted by Dr Sucheta H Desai, Transplant Co-Ordinator, P.D. Hinduja National Hospital, Dr.Suganti Iyer and Dr. Rita Joseph Hinduja Hospital. They will be lecturing on pledging and donating ones organs to save lives. The seminar will be for two hours. Donor cards and pamphlets will also be distributed with a call to sign on and save lives.
