This Saturday, I spent the first half of the day at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival with my friend Rajat Goyal (and the second half at the Mumbai Queer Pride parade, more on that later). When Rajat and I reached the festival venue at two, people had started pouring in but most of the installations were still being set up. As always there was loads of colour, interesting artwork and the place was brimming with festive energy.

It was a tad disappointing for me to find very few artisans unlike in the past. Last coupe of years have seen a rise in big and small brands setting up stalls at the event rather than artists and craftsmen from various parts of Maharashtra and other states. But besides that, we enjoyed checking out the art work on display, especially the one where recycled cola bottles were transformed into an innovative greenhouse which also helped conserve water and soil. As we all know, every year there is a ‘kala ghoda’ exhibit at the festival. This year the black horse was made of auto spare parts, re-emphasizing the concept of recycling.

Here are some of Rajat‘s shots from the fest that I loved and had to share with anyone who hasn’t yet visited and wanted a glimpse. Hope you enjoy them as I did. Have photos of your own from the festival? Email them to us at story@mumbaimag.com and get featured.
