Apart from the prestigious screenings, as a celebration of the centenary of Indian cinema screenings of restored Indian silent films are also scheduled accompanied by a live orchestra. A new competition section for Indian films is also being introduced this year called India Gold 2012. It will see films of debut directors of 13 Indian languages compete for the prize money of USD 31,000. Other competitions include the regulars like – International Competition, Celebrate Age, Retrospectives, Above the Cut, New Faces in Indian cinema, The Real Reel and Dimensions Mumbai. Total prize money up for the takes this year is USD 220,000.

Another event to continue its association with the Mumbai Film Festival is Mumbai Film Mart (MFM). After a thunderous maiden outing last year, in its second edition the only film market in India as described by Mukesh Bhatt, President, Film and TV Producers Guild of India, will be organized from October 19th to 21st, 2012 in Trident Hotel, Nariman Point and aims at dynamic three day interactions between film distributors, buyers, sellers, producers, acquisition agents, broadcasters and festival programmers from all over India and the globe.

Along with the screenings of National and International films, also being organized is a two-day workshop – Masterclass – on pitching, screenwriting and script development by David Magee of Finding Neverland fame and Claire Dobbin for scriptwriters, directors and producers.

All in all a film festival for the makers as well as the seekers and the whole world knows nothing makes Mumbai come alive like movies do. Register yourself right away, before the cinemas are too full. So dreamers see you at the other side of the dream reel. Do share your experience of being at the Mumbai Film Festival once you are out of the dream vacation.
