India’s happiest music festival is back! After making untamable spirits roar in Kolkata and Bengaluru, it’s now Pune’s turn to feel the Bacardi NH7 beat. The Weekender line-up for Pune seems quite exciting and we’re kicked to see our favourite bands and artists in action. And the one band that we, at MumbaiMag, are pretty excited about is the euphoric – the Raghu Dixit Project! We spoke to Raghu Dixit to find out all about his upcoming performance and his music.

Raghu-Dixit-Gomtesh-Upadhye-2Another year at the Bacardi NH7, what can we look forward to from your set this year?
A completely new set! We’ll be playing a lot of songs from our new album, Jagchanga. Also, this time, it’s not just going to be 5, but about 30 people on stage! We’re collaborating with a Bangalore-based dance company called Nritarutya this time. It’s going to be a visual treat with dancers, shadow puppeteers and visual projections. I’d say it’ll be like a carnival on stage!

We love your style of music! What inspired you to take up and stick to the folk-inspired music?
Well, music is what I am. I didn’t really choose a particular genre or form of music. To be honest, I have never really studied music. I come from a very modest and orthodox family, where, I never happened to listen to western music for most of the early years of my life. From day one, I was always writing my own music. Folk singers are never really trained, they sing because they enjoy singing. And that’s the case for me too. I am not trained in singing. I sing because I want to sing.

Edited-6078-ResizedFrom getting your first break with Vishal-Shekhar to being one of India’s most popular LIVE acts – how has the journey been so far?
I don’t know how to define the journey! Very few people are blessed to hear their calling and pursue it. And I am making a complete living out of what I love doing. So yes, it feels very, very good!

Singer- songwriter, producer, and film composer – you don quite a few hats! Must be hard to juggle?
It indeed gets extremely tough. But, I’ve become great with time management, skipping meals and not sleeping. But in the end, I love what I do. So it is all worth it!

raghu dixit projectThe act you’re looking forward to at this year’s Bacradi NH7…
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to catch up on most of the performances in Pune. But I would’ve loved to catch Amit Trivedi perform LIVE. I guess I will probably get to watch him perform in Delhi.

When can your fans expect a new album?
I have never really had an obsession with releasing record after record. So, another couple of years, maybe. I still need to discover a direction for the new album & start traveling to meet musicians for collaborations.

When asked if he had a message for his fans, here’s what he had to say said – “Yes! Please tell the whole world that I’ve lost weight!” A musician with a funny bone, we’re pretty kicked to watch the Raghu Dixit Project perform at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender on the Nov 21-23 in Pune.
