A city that never sleeps and lives from weekend to weekend, could suffer mild Monday blues. Beating them one doodle at a time is Jalpa Shah, who is making Mondays brighter with smiles. This is her story.

“I’m Jalpa Shah, 25 years old design graduate from Rachana Sansad College of Art, Mumbai, India. Currently I work with Ogilvy & Mather, Mumbai, as a visualiser. Walking into the office on Monday morning, almost every face I encounter has a frown plastered across it. So I came up with the Monday Bludle idea in the hope that it would turn make my co-workers smile and give them something to look forward to on a day that everyone seems to hate. And the best way for me to do that is through my illustrations. More than anything, I want my artwork to be a stress-buster for the viewer.

I first illustrate my thoughts on a piece of paper and I then work on it digitally to vectorize them and add in the details. It’s not just my co-workers that inspire me, though. I draw inspiration from everything I see around me. Take the story behind the Shitty Selfie artwork: I was travelling in a local train once, when I saw people sitting on the railway track near Mahim with their backs to the train and pooping. To my surprise, as the train moved ahead, I saw a young man taking a selfie mid-poop!”
