Remember that time when the doorbell rang and you greeted the postman? No? Of course you don’t! You probably haven’t actually received a hand written letter or card in a while now, have you? And you probably haven’t sent one either. The ping on your phone which signals the arrival of an email can never replace the joy of tearing open an envelope or unfolding a letter. While emails can stay in a folder forever, they won’t inspire the same kind of nostalgia when reopened years later. That’s where Cards by Anjali, 21Fools and the Postcard People come in, here’s a look: Cards by Anjali – Spoken Greeting cards

Have something important or unimportant to say to someone? Maybe on their birthday, on an anniversary or without any reason at all? Then turn to Cards by Anjali, for what are aptly described on their Facebook page as ‘spoken greeting cards’. Their cards are quirky and hilarious, and will definitely bring a smile to someone’s face.

For example, you got drunk at a party and couldn’t hold your drink? Send your trusty friend a card which reads “I’m sorry I threw up on you, it won’t happen again (probably).” Now that’s a situation that deserves a card. But you really won’t find an apt one at Hallmark. For more amorous expressions who wants a mushy love poem when all a card has to say is “You + Me = Hell yeah!” This wordy duo, Hari Mina Bala (an artist based in Mumbai) and Anjali Singh (a school teacher based in the UK) have cards for all oddly memorable occasions. Others are just plain funny and make for memorable gifts. If they don’t have a card that puts your exact thoughts into words, then just send them a request via email or call 9987344224 and they’ll custom design a card for you. 21fools – Spreading happiness one card at a time

The smiley folk at start-up 21fools have a singular vision; to make meaningful products and share experiences that will make the world a happier place. They want to make it easier for us to write and send greeting cards. And to do this, they design simple cards, which you can buy online and will be delivered to you anywhere in India within just 2 days.

Some of their themes are traditional; ideal for occasion like birthdays, anniversaries, festivals or valentines. Others address universal sentiments like love, friendship, admiration, respect or longing. But don’t expect the clichéd flowers, hearts and puppy faces. What sets their cards apart is their simple contemporary aesthetic. You can browse through their online store, choose what you like, request a personal message (which will be handwritten) and have the card sent to the object of your affection! How’s that for convenient? Postcard People: A Design Collaborative

Pavithra Dikshit, Tosha Jagad and Poorva Shingre have joined forces to start a design initiative called the ‘Postcard People’. They’ve united with a mission: to revive the use of postcards. They make absolutely beautiful B&W hand-drawn postcards, which will rekindle your love for this dying means of communication. They aim at creating a mood with every postcard, and believe that design and art are integral to achieving this. Their designs are interesting, quirky and definitely memorable. Since each postcard is hand-drawn, so you can be sure that your little token of love is absolutely unique! I know I’d be super happy to find one these in the mail.

The Postcard People may have just set up shop, but have already created quite a buzz on social media channels. They haven’t started retailing in a big way yet, but they do take orders. You can contact them on their Facebook page for more. If you have something to say to someone special, just pen your thoughts & send them a card; you have so many great options to choose from! Looks like snail-mail is hip again and postmen will stay in business.
