The Ska Vengers is a New Delhi based band that started when Stefan Kaye rounded up a few of his musician friends to form the band in the fall of 2009. Over the year they grew up to be a six-piece band, and spent most of 2010 working on originals.
After 5 months from their last performance at the Blue Frog, Ska Vengers returned last night for their LP launch. Like the band profile reads, they blend ‘ska’ rhythms with elements of dub, punk, jazz and rap to come up with a form of music that is refreshingly different, energetic and highly danceable. This is one band filled with so much energy in their performance that you are bound to be grooving on the dance floor.
The performance began with showcasing of Rough ‘n Mean’s new video. As the set progressed it was impossible not to find your toes tapping while your body started to skank with the band. The present eight-piece line up includes Miss Samara C. and Delhi Sultanate on Vocals; Stefan ‘Flexi K’ Kaye on the Organ; Raghav Diggy Dang and Tony ‘Bass’ Guinard on the guitars and bass respectively; drummer The Late Nikhil Vasudevan; and Rie Ona on saxophone with Yohei Sato playing the trombone.
