What’s better than getting a massage? Getting a massage anywhere, anytime, of course! And yes, it is possible. SWA Wellness is a service that delivers spa services to your office or home. The idea itself is a winning one and I couldn’t wait to try!
To book an appointment just call SWA Wellness for a reservation. I was connected to Jyoti Salvi, the founder and director – formerly a consultant with pharma companies – who recommended the right massage for me after discussing my focus areas.
The next day, two therapists arrived at my home, gear and equipment in hand and asked for 10 minutes to set up the room. When I entered my room, the space had been transformed with a massage table, that distinct spa smell (thanks to the aroma candle) and ambient music playing from mysterious speakers that I somehow couldn’t spot. After setting up, Nunga (one of the therapists) took his leave and Aneth (the other therapist) was assigned to perform the massages.
The massage table was ready with a tray of almonds and a big flower – by this point it was getting hard to believe I was in my own home. When choosing between what service to take, it was a tough choice – Thai massages, hot stone massage, Ayurvedic massage, specialized Mani-Pedissages, coffee and mangosteen treatments and if you’re in a rush: 20 minute express massages. The packages start at Rs. 1500 and go up to RS. 3000, with the express massages costing Rs. 600.
I went for a facial (Rs. 2700) and a foot massage (Rs. 1500), which they call a ‘healing reflessage’. It’s a signature massage and involves applying pressure to every point in the foot to soothe different organs in the body. The deft kneading of my troubled feet, the calming aroma from the candle and the music made sure I drifted off to a comfortable nap.
What I particularly liked about the massage was that after it was done, my feet were wiped clean of oil and I was given gauzy bathroom slippers to ensure no mess. They use clean towels and disposable sheets and robes, which is extremely reassuring. Even during the facial, Anetha kept sanitizing her hands at every occasion. After it was over she even pulled out an electric kettle out of her bag to wrap up the experience with herbal tea!
Like I mentioned, the idea of a mobile spa is a great one to begin with. Professional therapists who are insistent on hygiene and have an eye for details is what really brings the experience home. Although slightly steep, I’d definitely pay more for a service which lets me relax and make a spa out of my home. As I type, my room still smells of tea tree oil and I know I’m going to sleep well tonight!
