Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, so it’s about time to start planning (hint, hint!). While a lot of you Mumbai love birds might have romantic dinners, clubbing, house parties and lavish getaways on your list of tentative plans—please don’t tell me you don’t have any plans at all! And in case that is true for you, here are two unique and relatively nearby travel destinations I very recently checked out. These are perfect for those of you seeking a more outdoor and unconventional way of celebrating 14th February! Hideout Located in Jhadpoli Village, Thana District, Hideout is an organic farm run by Hemant and Sangeeta Chhabra that will awaken your senses with it's beauty. It might be a long drive to get there but it is worth it. With plenty of open space, organic, vegetarian, freshly cooked delicious meals, colorful jhoolas, lanterns, cats, a dog, a waterfall nearby, Hideout offers a spiritual and deeper way of celebrating Valentine’s Day amidst nature. Many couples have come here and resolved disputes, while others have proposed here—such is the magic of this spiritual and serene place. Oh, and the Chhabras are delightful hosts and make sure your stay is one of a kind. If you are a couple who enjoy being outdoor, locked in each other’s arms under the moon and stars, Hideout is the place to be this V Day. Thinsg to do: Hideout organizes romantic, full moon nights where you can fall asleep cuddled up to your loved one under the stars. There are several beds outside with nets, or you can camp out near a bonfire, or even stay in a gorgeous mud house. Non-veg and alcohol are not permitted, but this place offers a unique, memorable and meaningful getaway. And the vegetarian buffets are simply yummy! Address: Sangeeta & Hemant's Farm, Thappar Pada, Jhadpoli Village, Vikramgarh Taluka, Thana District How to get there: You can drive to Hideout, or you can take a train to Thane, followed by a 2.5-hour Jawahar bus to Jhadpoli. Once you get off at Jhadpoli, it is a five-minute walk. Facilities: Meals provided, car parking, houses with attached bathroom, free internet, pets allowed. Cost: Per couple, rates range from Rs. 4000-6000 per night, including meals--couples have the option for opting for tents, camping with a mosquito net, mud houses, eco cottages and brick houses. Saguna Baug Located in Neral, Saguna Baug is another innovative outdoor place to celebrate Valentine’s Day. This place is full of fun things to try out, to keep you busy throughout the day. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are served (no where near as delicious as Hideout, though), however, alcohol is not allowed here either. Things to do Ranging from swimming, fishing and milking cows to water buffalo riding, bullock cart riding, horse riding and archery, there are bound to be activities that excite everyone here. I strongly recommend water buffalo riding, simply for the laughs you and your beloved will get out of it! You can cuddle up to your sweetheart in one of the many hammocks scattered all over the area or enjoy a gorgeous sunset in a paddle boat. Address: Village Malegaon, Neral 410101, India Contact: (STD CODE -02148) 238438/338/650349 How to get there: You can drive here, or simply take a train to Neral, followed by a less than 2 kilometers rickshaw ride. Facilities: Meals provided, doctor on call, car parking, cottages with attached bathroom, room service, showers for general public too. Cost: One night stay begins at Rs. 1000 per person, and includes meals. And there you go—two new places to visit on Valentine’s Day that I bet you haven’t heard of before.
