DIY: Dressed Up Slippers

Today I wore rubber slippers to work. That is most ordinary for Bombay folks in this season, but working in Chandigarh, the north India effect has rubbed off and I do make an effort  to get dressed. Coming back to the slippers… It has been raining a copious amount here and I didn’t want to subject my sandals to the evil wrath of the puddles. You know I get all Gollum about my shoes, so today I hesitatingly wore my slippers but dressed those up too!

Here’s how:
1. Buy a comfy pair of rubber flip-flops. These could be an old favourite or a new pair. I picked up a pair of black ones from Westside for Rs 149, they’re super cute and have colourful hearts on them (Additionally, I can say that I wear my heart in my feet :P). You need to ensure the sole has grooves to create some grip.

2. Pick your favourite baubles in pairs. Rummage through old, broken jewellery pieces, get ribbons, raid Something Special in Bandra or any other craft store and pick up interesting pieces. I had a bunch of crocheted flowers that I used for mine. Make sure you have everything in multiples of two.

3. Get super glue and create a strap full of sunshine! Alternatively, you could get a thick needle and stitch the pieces together, which is a better option and requires only a bit more effort. If neither of these are your scene, sit with your local mochi and have him stitch the pieces up. But you will have to sit and get at least one foot done the way you want, don’t leave the slippers at the cobblers and expect him to work miracles.

4. Voila! Your feet are ready to party in rubber slippers 😀

Now we all know where to get monsoon footwear, but this is like couture for the feet. I hope this little lesson helps you add a little song to your walk. So, Y U NO DIY and send us the pictures!
