Many of us end the year with intoxication and indulgence, which has some terrible after effects. We frantically try to undo the damage wwith unattainable new-year resolutions, sudden detox diets and one-too-many yoga lessons. This year you have the chance to break this unhealthy cycle at Zambhala where you can nurture your life spirit, ending the year with emotional, spiritual and physical growth.

An introduction to Zambhala

Zambhala is India’s first Yoga and Life spirit festival, which will take place in Bardo, Goa on the 21st and 22nd of December. Before I lose the sceptics, let me demystify the word ‘life spirit’. According to the people who envisioned Zambhala, life spirit is simply defined as the vitality, energy and life force that runs through us. It is that which makes us feel alive, happy, animated, hopeful, expressive and healthy. Like all precious things, this life spirit needs nourishment. From time to time we need a little help with this, which is where Zambhala comes in.

An enlightening line-up of events

In a course of two days you will get the chance to express pure joy with Sufi Whirling or Psychic Painting, go on a soulful journey with Past Life Regression or get a personal Chakra Reading. Learn how to deal with anger and stress, or interpret dreams. Zambhala will feature a host of different yoga sessions, which will allow you to explore almost the entire spectrum of ancient and contemporary yogic practice.

Zambhala brings together Shaolin monks, Amazonian shamans, gymnasts, dance therapists, Reiki experts, hypnotists and painters among others. I don’t think such a diverse gathering of people has ever occurred on Indian soil!  The line-up features prominent names from across the globe, all of whom in some way or the other will help you relax, rejuvenate and learn with joy. Mickey Mehta, Shivom Bhat, Deepika Mehta and Zia Nath are some prominent Indian health & wellness icons who will share their wisdom at Zambhala. Bombay Bassment, Nush Lewis and Arambolla will enrich the event with their music. It takes hours just to browse through all the events and expected line-up! Their website has detailed info on all activities and partners involved.

Zambhala sounds like the promising answer to a lot of our worries. As they say, no matter what the problem, the best solution is usually found within, and it helps that the journey within also takes you to Goa. If this sounds like something you want to experience, log onto Book My Show for tickets. The entire two day event costs ₹2800. If you don’t want to book in advance, you can just show up at the gate and buy day passes for ₹1600 per head.

If you want a little taste of Zambhala you can attend one of the several Zambhala Connect events aimed at building awareness about the weekend festival. These events held in several cities across the country will allow you to experience life spirit activities in a smaller doses. A few have been scheduled between now and 21st of December. Follow this link for details.

Zambhala seems to have piqued the interest of Mumbai’s soul searching folk. I’ve heard talk of it at almost every yoga studio, gym and spa. Move over Sunburn, looks like chanting trumps partying this year.
